Workshop: How to color…something really different! meet Takumi Naryoshi

Sometimes we see drawings, and we don’t know how to color. That could be a reason for not buying a adult coloring book…because we people, like to feel comfortable with what we see. That’s a petty, because sometimes it could be a relieve, to do something really different….

Soms zien we tekeningen waar we geen idee bij hebben hoe we die in moeten kleuren. Dat kan een reden zijn om een Kleurboek voor Volwassenen te laten liggen… omdat wij mensen nu eenmaal graag teruggrijpen naar het vertrouwde, het bekende. Dat is jammer, want soms kan het een bevrijding zijn, iets totaal anders te doen.

I show you an example, a drawing where i did not know, what to do with it, for me it was new…but also exciting. A challenge too…

Ik laat jullie een voorbeeld zien, een tekening waarbij ik ook niet meteen wist, wat ik er mee kon. Ook voor mij geheel nieuw, dus spannend. Maar ook een uitdaging!

It’s work from Takumi Nariyoshi, he works with Global Doodle Gems on two books, a day and night kind of version. Likes he opposite of each other. The safest feeling I got with the darkest drawing, because the lines where clear, so I started with that.

Het is werk van Takumi Nariyoshi, hij werkt aan twee boeken met GDG, een soort dag en nacht versie. Alsof het een tegenovergestelde is. Het “veiligste” gevoel, kreeg ik bij de donkere versie, omdat daar de lijnen duidelijk zijn, doorgetrokken dus. Ik begin dus daar mee.

I just started in the middle of the drawing, my eye just felt on that.

Ik heb gekozen om in het midden te beginnen, gewoon omdat mijn oog daar als eerste op viel.

I choose for Stabilo 68, because they color pretty fine, and easy to blend with each other. The outlines of the middle circle will flow to another one… I just keep coloring. When you do that, you see a bit of how the first piece will become of your artwork. When the first circle is filled, I will go to finish the next…also keep following the lines to the next pattern.

Ik heb gekozen voor Stabilo 68 om mee te kleuren,  omdat je ze makkelijk kan mengen. De buitenlijnen van een cirkel lopen door naar een volgende, ik kleur die gelijk mee. Als je dat doet namelijk, zie je gelijk ook het patroon in de volgende cirkel, en hoe je werk er uit gaat zien… ook daar neem ik gelijk de buitenlijnen naar een volgende cirkel mee.

As you can see, the outlines of one circle brings you to the other, as a guideline. You will get used to it!

Zoals jullie kunnen zien, de buitenlijnen van de ene circkel, brengen je naar de andere, als een soort wegwijzer. Je raakt er aan gewend!

That was the dark side of this drawing, lets start with the “day” version. That’s more difficult, because you don’t have straight lines, they are missing. You could use your “Night” version, as your guideline!

Dat was de donkere versie van deze tekening, laten we nu de “dag” verisie gaan inkleuren. Dat is moeilijker, je hebt de duidelijke lijnen niet, ze zijn er gewoon niet. Je kunt nu je “Nacht” versie gebruiken als je gids!

  

I made my own “outline”, with the green color to start. You have to use your imagination now, or follow the lines you did on the “night” drawing. It will help you. I used the same colors, so they will fit together. And also it helps you to feel comfortable, because you “know” the colors!

Ik ben begonnen met lichtgroen, om mijn eigen buitenlijn te maken. Nu moet je meer je eigen fantasie gebruiken, of de lijnen volgen van je donkere versie. Ik heb gekozen voor dezelfde kleuren, zodat ze mooi bij elkaar assen. maar het helpt je ook om het makkelijker te maken, weer dat vertroude gevoel crëeren dus!

And watch, how great your new kind of art will become. You did it, because you can… there is no limit with you skills, you can always learn something new, you just have to start…. that’s just what I do! I have an extra pressure, because I color for a great artist…. so I am nervous to when I start something new! And I am proud of what I did!

En kijk, hoe mooi je nieuwe soort “kunst” word. Jij deed het, omdat je het kunt! Er is geen grens voor je mogelijkheden, je kan altijd iets nieus leren, je moet er gewoon aan beginnen…. dat is precies wat ik ook doe! En ook ik voel druk hoor, ik ben gevraagd in te kleuren voor een groot artiest…. dus ik heb ook de kriebels, als ik word gevraagd in te kleuren, op een gebied wat ik zelf ook nog niet ken! En ik ben trots op mijn werk!

I show you 2 other sets i did the same way as this one…. first the night, after that the day version…I love this kind of coloring after 4 sets.

Ik geef jullie nog 2 voorbeelden die ik op dezelfde manier heb ingekleurd, eerst de donkere, dan de lichte versie. Ik ben verslaafd na 4 van deze sets te hebben ingekleurd.

The fish I colored both at the same time, because I wanted to use the same colors. I also wanted to know how it would be like…because of the black background.

De vissen heb ik tegelijkertijd ingekleurd, ik wilde ze gelijk inkleuren. Ook om te zien hoe dat dan uitpakt op de zwarte achtergrond.

I hope that I helped you, to do something unusual, try something new…because anyone can do that…you also…just dare too!
