GDG Annual Collorists Collection Volume 1 (2015/2016), Margreet Kleurde

Mijn naam is Margreet Koelewijn .

My name is Margreet Koelewijn, 47 years young and I like to colour for already 4 years now. I love my coloured pencils but like to challenge myself using other materials and brands too. It is asked, t test the books with different materials so now I have to. I like to share my experience with others, to tell about the books and the brands I use. This will be my 3rd review for Global Doodle Gems, this time it will be GDG Annual Colorists Chice Collection Volume 1 year 2015/2016

In this big book, I think over 100 drawings, will be the favorite choice of drawings collected by colourists. More than 500 coloured pieces where collected, a judge made the choice who also made a small comment about it.

The colouringbook has singleside pages. In the meantime I learned to use a protectionsheet always, n bleedthrugh risks anymore. Also I do not see the draing on the next page, the pages are not that thick. On the left page there is info about the artist, which country he comes from and there info about internet, also the book where the drawing is coming from.

I made my choice of 4 drawings, I will colour them in different styles with different materials.

My 1st drawing is from  Arthur Santiago Quirat. I like to colour with pencils, markerpens and gelpens. A very detailed drawing, there is a lot going on, a bg challenge for me

I used Maped Color Peps pencils, nice buget priced pencils, also budget are the Kid Colour Bic markers, First time that I will use them. My gelpens are also low budget. I hop that some details will pop up, by using different material. Hmm where to start…. With coloured pencil…

After that I did some yellow , the turtles and flowers, the drawing will become clear for me, nice to discover different items while I am coloring

At last I used sparkle gelpens (the chain on the diver). Watch out, they can give spots, wait untill they are dry, use it at last!

I did not like the Maped pencils on this paper, I still see the paper. The Bic markerpens work pretty fine, A little bleedthrough but that’s ok, no stripes and you can do more layers. The sparklepens did not absorb well, but after drying it was fine for the small spaces

I really liked this project, because of discovering more and more details while colouring.

Mijn 2e tekening.

My 2nd drawing is from Casey Gilmore, I really believe this drawing needs coloured pencils and I choose some more expensives, the Spectrum Noir Colourblend. The set has 5 different boxes, “shade and Tone”, “Primaries”, “Florals”,  “Essentials” and “Naturals”, and I used them all, because of there unusual colourtones. For the background I used Stabilo Carbothello pastelpencils.

The pencils did not cover right away, after 3 layers, I did the 4th with some extra pressure and than it was fine for me.

Because of the softness of those pencills I used a paper under my hand, to not smudge my work

The background I did with Stabilo Carbothello pastelpencil and a paperstump. I made a mistake myself, it gave not some extra I was to enthousiastic ad I did not like it. I tried to rub it of, but my paper ruined, tried to cover with tape… what a petty! I protected my colouring with a fixative spray. I like the romantic style of the drawing.

My 3rd drawing is from Alfred E. Villanueva a dragonfly. I did choose another drawing but some asked to color a insect, so I looked for it. I use the Carbothello pastelpencils. I never did a drawing with only pastelpencil. Kneaded eraser in the neighbourhood for smoothing and erase, also use the paperstump.

Use some little colour and smooth it with the paperstump,  use a paper under your hand to noot ruin your colouring, pastel mars. It should be the best to start in the corner left above and work downside, but I am not that organised colorist haha. Dab with your kneaded eraser, you can form it the way you want, and it takes of your pastel colour or crumbs pretty easy. Use the paperstump to “push” your color in the small edges, for bigger spaces I blend with my fingers.

I am very happy with my Carbothello pastels, don’t forget that you have to use a fixative spray to protect your work… be darefull with the spary, use to much and you will stamp your colouring on the next page! I learned that I should not remove my protectionsheet, while I am spraying! Better use thin layers…. I clean my paperstump by pushing it into the kneaded eraser, go over a paper or use sandpaper.

My 4th drawing is from Laurie Beauchamp and I will again use my Carbothello and sparkle gelpens. I liked it in the colouring before, and now I like to know how it works in detailled drawing. I also use cottonballs and tips to colour. It works fine for the smaller spaces, no scratches from the paperstump, and better than my thick fingers sometimes.

I first make some coloured lines that I ru into the paper with a paperstump or cottonball. use more for the different colourpallets, or you have to clean them inbetween. Advice, take care of a set!

I worked as much as possible from left to the right, from aboce to the lower part. Put a paper under your and so it will not take of your color. (tip from Johanna Ans, use your fixative spray inbetween, thin layer, dry color and go on!)

I made a sweet dragon, also because of the material. I only think, that I just had to use a soft coloured pencil to get the same result. maybe I wil combine the next time. I could have done the background and the “ring” with pastels and the rest (flowers, face of the dragon, birds) with regular pencil, but I am happy with the result.

I like GDG Annual Colorists Collection Volume 1 very much. Different artists, different styles. You can use almost whatever you like IF you use a protectionsheet between the pages. It is not needed t have expensive material, the low budget stuff works fine too. Take care with your “wet” materials, let it dry inbetween your layers. At the end of the book, you have some pages to try your materials, or blend some tests.

Thank you very much Margreet for yur gorgeous review, so you like to see more of Margreet Kleurde, than follow her on Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/margreetkleurde or Instagram: @margreet_koelewijn

Valentine!!! New GDG LOVERS…..

Today it’s Valentines day, the day that you think about your loved onces, your secret lover, or other kinds of love…. I wanna share the love for Global Doodle Gems books by our new Dutch Review team…. I will give you some quotes that I found on our secret group! But of course it is also about our GDG Valentines Collection, 3 books already! The team all bought a set of 3 books for a review, so they do know about our books, those Valentines drawings where a gift from me to the team….

I gave the team all my drawings that I made for those books, just a week ago, because my idea came late… but that was not a problem at all…they where so enthusiastic and started to color for us! These are some line ups they wrote on the group….

For me it is a honor te work on this! And GDG deserves to become famous in the Netherlands, because the drawings are fantastic from the great artists in gorgeous books!

Nice drawings, I collected them all and I am sure to collaborate. And indead, it’s a unique thing that we get all those drawings from you

Nice drawings! I wait for the files to start. Because of being one of this team I am more motivated to make something beautiful from each drawing.

Isn’t that great! To see that colorists / reviewers write such nice words? It makes me cheerful and happy. During the coloring people even write nice quotes with the drawing, like Tabitha did.
tabitha-wasbauer

‘Love life! Be passionate, even when it’s dark’.

And there is more, more nice quotes!

Johanna Ans, really nice this that we may do all those extra things!

Doe graag mee

That seems like an honor to me and a nice / special experience to work on this. I am in

Erg leuk!

I color more, and have more fun coloring. I think it is because of the diversity in the books. I see a challenge everywhere…in the drawing it self or the material to use. Really nice!

Of course I want to show you what the colorist did last week, I collected there work and made a nice video of it…. This blog is also a surprise for them, because I want to say thank you to them too…want to tell how much I appreciate there enthousiasme, there work, there blogs and sharing of all the work they have done in just a couple of weeks!

Dank jullie wel GDG Dutch Review Team….. Thank you all!!!
Manuela, Tabitha, Karin, Debby, Mimi, Manuela, Cindy, Patricia, Margreet, Heleen, Charlaine, Janeska, Wendy, Stephanie & Hanny

And if you like to learn some pretty nice DUTCH LOVE lessons… I found this on Youtube… and it is funny….

Tot ziens in het volgende blog!!! Global Doodle Gems & Kleurglossy (Translation of the article)

Global Doodle Gems & Kleurglossy (Translation of the article)

You all knew that we are in the Dutch magazine “Kleurglossy” from publisher Personalia, but for the most of you, it was not possible to read the article…of course I thought of a solution, and asked my friend and colorist Leo Delescen (AKA Nightcolorist) to translate the article for you. Thank you very much for your time Leo!
20161203_081546 20161203_081606
We had a small talk about our great book GDG “The directory of Who’s Who”. It is a petty that they forgot to mention the blog about the book, that the biggest colorgroup of The Netherlands made, “Kleuren voor Volwassenen”. Because that was a part of this adventure! But let us start, so you can read yourself!
20161203_081628

Global Doodle Gems is a worldwide collaboration of over 130 committed artists, illustrators and colorists. It was launched last year by 42 year old Danish artist Maria Wedel. And it catches on. By now almost a hundred coloring books have been published with contributions of countless Global Doodle Gems artists. And it is still counting… A conversation with Maria and her Dutch right hand Johanna Ans van den Broek about the how and why of this colorful initiative.
20161203_081641

It all started when I received requests from several artists within my network for coloring in my drawings before I myself had the time for that. That’s funny, I thought, maybe this is a way to bring together artists who love drawing and coloring together. Without hindrance of publishers who’s only goal is to make profit but instead the possibility of publishing by a group of people and keep ownership of our own work. Thus the idea of Global Doodle Gems sprang into life in 2015. So I already posessed a network of artists. I decided to ask them if they would be interested in joining me.Within no time a group of 50 people was formed. And now there are already 130 enthusiastic and creative people in this collaboration.

OWNERSHIP OF YOUR OWN CREATIONS

The Global Doodle Gems netwerk is spreading and extending. From the Philippines to Taiwan and from the United States to Denmark. Those who want to join the worldwide network must of course have a lot to offer but in particular they must have a distinctive style of drawing. At the moment there are eight Dutch participants active in the Global Doodle Gems network. One of them is 50 year old Johanna Ans van den Broek who came in contact with Maria Wedel indirectly: “I knew Maria’s work and the idea of creating a companionship of like minded people appealed to me very much, especially the part where you always keep ownership of your work. Often a coloring picture or book is published by a publisher who then owns copyright and also receives all additional revenues. At Global Doodle Gems the artists are put first. It is a wonderful platform to share work, both for newbies and advanced artists.

UNIQUE COLOR EXPERIENCE

The good thing is that we all love to draw and to colored but each has his or her own style. And that is exactly what we want to achieve: to bring together all the different styles into one unique color experience. So you work individually but make a book together. We publish several kinds of books, including the so called Volume books which contain sixty coloring pictures by ten different artists. Those whitin our network who are interested can subscribe in advance. The only demand is that the drawing must be ‘clean’, so no traces of erasing, pencil strokes or sloppy lines. The picture must be ready to be colored in immediately. Maria is the one who coordinates all requests. “Sometimes this causes stress. There are quite a lot of people I have to ‘manage’ and things to handle. Luckily Johanna Ans provides support and help, like promotional work as there is the maintenance of our Facebook page or writing blogs for our website.”

OUTLET

To Johanna Ans Global Doodle Gems means more than drawing and writing blogs: “It’s an outlet, or rather a lifebuoy that came at the exact right moment in my life. For some time now I have been struggling with my health. In 2013 I suffered from a brain hemorrhage. I was depressed and had mood swings. Thanks to my work for Global Doodle Gems some tranquility came back into my life. And even more, it restore confidence. Sketching, coloring and writing give me joy. I color since I was eight years old and I’m happy to say that this passion never goes away. Coloring is a thing that comes from deep inside, out of the heart. I always tell others: you don’t need to stay within the lines, just let yourself go. Practice the ‘just do whatever you like’ technique. And it really does not matter with which materials you color. Whether they are inexpensive colored pencils from a budget store like Lidl or a beautiful Caran d’Ache Pablo set (which by the way are my favorites): it’s the hand that colors, not the material.”

WOOD YOU COLOR ME?

At the moment Johanna Ans is working on projects……
20161203_081647
….that have a Dutch dimension: “I cannot tell much at this stage but together with some Dutch Doodle Gems artists we are working on a book titled “Typical Dutch” which will contain coloring pictures with typical Dutch subjects like windmills and cheese. Also I am working on “Wood you color me”? It’s all in the name: it is a coloring book that revolves around wood. The cover is colored in by Wendy Hofstee of Wendy Kleurt! I was also involved with making the Global Doodle Gems book “Directory of Who’s Who” (in this issue of Kleurglossy you can find several drawings from this publication). This book is published in cooperation with Adult Coloring Worldwide and is aimed at adult colorists. In it there are 119 designs on as many pages with mentioning the name of the artist. A beautiful coloring book that lets you meet the artists and their styles. Oh, and I will publish a calender book. Not to mention all the regular duties.

TALENTED ARTISTS

Not only Johanna Ans is very active within the Global Doodle Gems community, all artists are. New titels are published every month. Besides the Volume books Global Doodle Gems publishes theme books (like flowers or mandalas) and seasonal books (Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Valentine Day). The Volume Mini collection is also popular. “And so covenient! The paperback size fits your bag perfectly. It’s nice to take with you and color in a train or while waiting somewhere”, Johanna Ans says. The books sell very well in the USA but in Netherlands and other countries they do well also. “We have so many talented artists in our ranks. Not only women but men also. From Taiwan there are Mr. End and Pica Wu. And from the Philipines our very talented young man Alfred E. Villanueva. Sketching for Global Doodle Gems provides him with the opportunity for a better life. I am glad that he is well. Looking at myself, I cannot make a living of the revenues. But that is not what I am aiming at. For me Global Doodle Gems is a meaningful way to pass the time. And if at the end I do manage to make a profit than that’s all the better.” Johanna Ans says.

THE LARGEST PUBLISHER OF COLORING BOOKS

Now that Global Doodle Gems made a successful start it is time to grow further according to Maria. The ultimate goal is to become the largest independent publisher of coloring books. At the moment it is mainly charitable work but in the long run it has to become profitable. “We finance new publications with the profits of existing ones, after settling the artist’s royalties. Profits of the mini books where artists participate voluntarily benefit Global Doodle Gems entirely. As for the rest, we try to draw attention in all possible ways. In countries where we are represented our artists show the public who we are and what we do via Facebook and by other means. But the most important thing is that we provide colorists around the world a beautiful and unique coloring experience.”

GDG “Volume 13”, by the Nightcolorist-Leo Delescen

Global Doodle Gems volume 13, by the nightcolorist-Leo Delescen

Leo Delescen, also known as the Nightcolorist, is a guy that I know from the Dutch coloring group “Kleuren Voor Volwassenen”. I love the way how he colors, but also how he can tell about the materials that he uses…. So it will be a great help for us, when he can and will do sometimes a host review for us! And he started with our GDG Volume 13. He also has his own website, please feel free to look  your self, www.nightcolorist.com

Thank you very much Leo

During the last week or so I colored several pages in the latest volume of Global Doodle Gems (volume 13), which was recently published. I was already familiar with Global Doodle Gems (GDG) because two Facebook friends of mine are artists and work for them. But I never colored in their published work, so now that both of them had their drawings published in the latest volume I thought this would provide the ideal opportunity for me to try and color in a GDG publication.

And let me say: this book did not disappoint at all!

But first things first, let’s take a look at the cover and some pages:
Global-doodle-gems

What a lovely cover for a coloring book! It displays parts of pictures by each of the ten artists that each drew five pages for this book, and are collected in 10 corresponding chapters. The nice thing is that the artists themselves (except one) colored in their own picture which is shown on the cover. I really like that. It shows the affinity of the artists to colorists, something that you can feel throughout this book as a whole because the way the drawings are done are ideal for coloring in.

NOTE from Johanna Ans: Not every artist is a good colorist, or can color…that’s why we from Global Doodle Gems are so happy with our colorists on the fangroup, we challenge them to color for the artist!

GDG-13-voorbeeld-1 GDG-13-voorbeeld-2

The misconception I had about doodling was that drawings by doodling artists consisted only of circles, both big and small. Well, look at the pictures above: not true! The drawings by the artists in this book are as various as you can get.

One minor issue with this book is the binding. It’s hard to flatten the pages. Therefore the previous pages of the pictures that I was coloring kept falling down and I had to hold them back. Like I said: a minor issue which did not bother me too much, but it would be nice if the binding would be somewhat more loose.

I must say that at first I was somewhat taken aback by the paper this book is printed on. It is on the thin side and although the pages are printed one-sided, which is always a plus in a coloring book, I had my doubts, especially when I would color with Faber Castell Pitt artist pens. But the paper turned out to be fine. So there’s another big plus!

I colored in three pages, two with colored pencils and one with water based markers and also used pastel.

  1. Colored Pencils (wax based)
    GDG-13-potlood

This is drawn by one of my Facebook coloring friends, Johanna Ans and isn’t it a gorgeous illustration? It was such fun to color in. There are small landscapes within the drawing which I did not notice untill my colored pencils came upon them. That was so cool.

I used Prismacolor Premier pencils which are wax based. They performed excellent. There was almost no need for blending and for the small parts that did I used a Derwent blender pencil. I noticed that you have to take care to not blend over the printed lines because they tend to bleed into the color when you do. And that gives nasty smudges, especially on light colors. But for the rest all went fine with these pencils and I enjoyed coloring in this drawing.

2. Colored pencils (oil based) and pastel

GDG-13-potlood-en-pastel

This one is drawn also by a Facebook friend, Peggy Sue, and just as gorgeous! For this one I used Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils which are oil based. They performed just as fine as the Prismacolors. This drawing invites you to turn this animal into a fantasy snail and that was such fun to do. Because the background was a rather big surface I decided to use pastels in a few different shades for it. The pastel sticked well to the paper and was easily smoothed out ( I used my fingertip). Because I wanted to get bright tones I applied several layers of pastel. And I must say that I was very pleased with the result.

3. Water based markers

GDG-13-pitt-pens

The third and final one, another beautiful drawing, this one by Taiwanese artist Wenyu Lin Small Fish. I colored this in with Faber Castell Pitt Artist pens. Like I mentioned already, I did not have much faith in the paper but it really surprised me! The felt tips went effortless, there was no bleeding whatsoever, not through the printed lines and not onto the back of the paper. Just excellent!

Wanna take a look yourself in this beautiful book?

Conclusion

Well, there is not much to complain about when it comes to this book. The drawings are various and excellent for coloring in. The artists have an eye for the needs of the colorist. The paper is thin but just fine for coloring with colored pencils, pastel or water based markers. I would advise the Publisher to look into the binding, so the pages can be flattened better in future volumes. But all in all a fine coloring book!

Maria Wedel Twist a Dala volume 1

I asked a lot of people from all over the world to help me color as many of the drawings I could share as possible…. And almost every one of them also made Work In Progress shots…so there is a lot to insprire you.. Let us start with the first video!

There were so many pictures that I had to make more videos of them.. I hope you like seeing all these drawings come alive!

Colorists from France, Australia, America, Taiwan, The Netherlands and more were involved in this secret B-Day surprise for Maria…. I would love to be the fly on the wall to see her face when she sees all this!

Even the colorings that I found on Global Doodle Gems Fangroup are included! You can join us if you like, meet 1000s and 1000s of colorists, even meet the artists, and see a lot of beautiful colorings and artwork….

Maria is an artist all the way, she also makes big big drawings and colorings, and a year ago she had this dream, to build Global Doodle Gems, a collaboration for artists from all over the world, to make gorgeous adult coloring books… she has published almost 100 books to date, in just one year….

Nice hey, to see all those gorgeous colorings…. I like to see what people can make from the same drawing, it ends up a totally different picture … every body has their own style or creativity. There is no limit, as long as you have fun coloring your piece, then it will be great work! Let the color come from you inner child, from your heart. Don’t think too much about how to…just have fun, and go with the flow!

I will show you the last video…all the finished pieces one after another. Thank you all my friends that helped me to make this for Maria, without your help, I could not make this surprise from all this gorgeous work!

Maria, you laid your hand on the artists of the world, you gave us opportunities that we dare not even dream of, thanks to you, we come from around the world…. That’s what the coloring of Peggy Sue Karunding tells us…. I will give it this extra attention, because it is gorgeous!

Coloristspotlight: What you did not know about Angie Thompson

Coloristspotlight: What you did not know about Angie Thompson

Did you know that Angie:

* …colored the whole minicollection Volume 1….
* …made a nice video of it, that I used for a youtube flipthrough…

* …was the first buyer of a Global Doodle Gems Book, yes she was, GDG Volume 1…
Volume 1
* …is a really true fan of Global Doodle Gems, and has almost all the books…
* …was one of the judges for our aniversarybook GDG “The Colorist Choice”…
* …is a big follower of what our artists do…
* …is a very sweet and nice lady, that we all love…
* …can write a really gorgeous interview about herself that you can read right now…

The one and only Angie Thompson coloring story:

I’m a passionate person. I love my family and friends.  I love animals.  I love people (well, most of them anyway). I love food.  I love art.  I LOVE COLORING!!

My coloring story started…well, I don’t know my exact age…but some of my earliest memories include coloring books, crayons and laying on the floor on my stomach, going to town.   My parents would color with me.  My sister and I would color together.  My Grandma would sit me up at the dining room table and I would color my little heart out.  My aunt would doodle dinosaurs and fun little things for my sister and me.  My other Grandma had a gallon ice cream bucket of Crayola crayons and a huge stack of color books that my cousins and I would delve into and color for hours together.   I can’t ever remember a time when I didn’t have paper, crayons and coloring books available to me.  I’ve had lulls in my life where I take a break from coloring, but I have always found my way back to color.

With my nearly my entire book collection, all artists and publishers.

As an adult, I have a huge coloring book collection and the biggest set of Crayola crayons that I could find.  I unabashedly colored in my “kid” style books for years and years.   Early 2015 the world of adult coloring books opened to me.  My friend Venessa and I ordered Johanna Basford’s books….and the adult coloring world exploded!   We founded the International Coloring Club Facebook Group and the hobby grew for me!

One of my favorite finds was the Global Doodle Gems group.  I happened into them before the first book hit the presses….and I was hooked.   I’m enamored with the talent of independent artists….and I love to support them.  I followed the group daily and I have participated in many of the coloring challenges.   The group has always generously provided “freebie” pages to play and experiment with.   I was able to learn more about individual artists, form some friendships.   I was even given the opportunity and honor to interview willing artists.

It has been fun to watch the Global Doodle Gems books grow.  The cooperative group is truly fascinating to me.   I have been so lucky that I have been able to add nearly all of the books published by the Global Doodle Gems to my coloring book library.  I have more than I can possibly color…and I love it!  The artists are all very supportive of each other and the colorists that support them.   It’s always really neat when you post a picture and the artist themselves will comment or like it!  Very cool!

Along with books, I’ve added a variety of supplies to my personal inventory.  I’ve tried a LOT of pencils, crayons and markers out in the last year or so.  My personal favorites are Faber Castell Polychromos pencils, Lyra pencils, Sharpie Ultra Fine Tip Markers, Copic Markers, PrismaColor Markers, and Faber Castell Pitt Pastel pencils.  Crayola Crayons will ALWAYS be the only crayon I will use.  Want to know about a product…message me, I’ve probably tried it!

Why do I color?  Well…it’s super relaxing.  I like seeing how different shades of color can make pictures come to life.  I can feel stressed, take 10 minutes to myself and put some color on a page…and I feel better.  I think I may be lucky in that I can visualize how I want my shading to look, how I want the colors to contrast.  I have learned a lot about shading and adding depth to pictures.  I even have been recently inspired to pick up some card stock and a pen and create some doodles of my own….something I would have NEVER even tried over a year ago.

Hmmm…I guess if you want to know any my personal details.   I’m a proud mom.  I have one son, Gene, who is turned 12 in May.   I’m engaged to my fiancé, Gil.  We have been together for a little over three years now.  We hope to move in together in the future eventually marry, but there isn’t a rush.   I am lucky that I found my best friend the second time around.  Gene, Gil and I share 3 dogs, Beau (mini Australian Shepherd), Clyde (black lab) and Buddy (Australian Shepherd mixed).  We also have 6 cats combined….Liberty, Henry, OilPan, Tank, Soggy, and Raven.   I’m also a proud Auntie to Lillian (13) and Cheyenne (11).

I also enjoy reading, crafting, movies, video games and spending time with my friends and family.  I love volunteer work for animals and I happily help out with the organizations that my son is involved in.  Coloring is my favorite hobby though,  our living room always has some sort of coloring supply cluttering up the sofa or end table.

GDG “The Big Little Book of Egg Designs”, Maria Wedel & Johanna Ans, individual

GDG “The Big Little Book of Egg Designs”, an individual book by Maria Wedel and Johanna Ans

Because of the success of GDG “The Little Big Book of Egg Designs”, Maria & Johanna had the idea to make another Eggtastic book… but this time it will be a mini version, with 101 Eggs to color!!! Doesn’t that sounds Eggtastic! That’s a big little book for you to color….

Cover test volume 1

The cover eggs are colored by Carla den Otter, Nancy van Acker & Johanna Ans

I would like to take you on a Egg journey with me… so let us start our Eggy roadtrip through this BIG little book!

I also made a video insight for you, a colored inspiration video… The first 24 eggs that we colored with the 3 of us….

As you can see, “The Big Little Book of Egg Designs”, has nothing to do with Easter… it’s just a lot of fun to color… detailed drawings, and pretty easy to color…and of course…you can also choose to draw more details in each egg if you  like…. just like I did…

Do you know what?…let’s do it together… you can see the steps and make the pictures you want-you can either start by drawing with me, or just color the finished one… that could be fun to do, don’t you think? It is a small size egg, so you can print two on one page!

As you can see, with some pretty easy linework, you can make a totally different egg, and after that, you will have the eggtastic fun of coloring your own design!

But it is Easter too, this weekend, so let’s take a look too, at GDG “Easter collection” volume 1.

If you like the shape of the egg to fill in with drawings, or to color, then the egg books are fun throughout the year for both activites….I really fell in love with this book…first when I started to color the eggs for Maria, and then again when I filled in my own drawings in her designs. I did that on 5 bonus pages. It was much fun to do… and it became even more fun when Maria asked me if I would like to draw 5 extra bonus pages… so it became a beautiful book in my opinion.  I will show you the inside of this eggtastic adventure…

I  can also show you a video of what I did with the “Big Eggs”-I filled in one of Maria’s, and colored it…and some other biggies too…

I am addicted to these drawings to color, I love it, and I believe, once you started, you will be too!

GDG “Twist ‘A’ Dala” by Maria Wedel. Personal Review

GDG “The Twist ‘A’ Dala Chill Pill” by Maria Wedel. Personal Review

A brand new new book in the Twister Chill collection, but now a square book with The Twist’A’Dala’s to color… Maria Wedel…I love it…again!
Coverspread Twist'A'Dala
The cover is colored by Ellen Wolters from the Netherlands, who is also an artist from Global Doodle Gems

Let us take a Twist’A’Dala  through this gorgeous book…. yes I can feel already that I will color….and color…

I made a start with this beauty…
MW-Twist'A'Dala-JH (1)_wm MW-Twist'A'Dala-JH (5)_wm MW-Twist'A'Dala-JH (8)_wm MW-Twist'A'Dala-JH (13)_wm

The whole ‘work in progress’ video I made….

I colored with my Caran d’Ache Pablo’s, one of my favorites, and a little Caran d’Ache Luminance, a real professional pencil, but I am still practising with these treasures…

This is the next drawing that I did, also with Caran d’Ache Pablo and the white Luminance pencil to blend my colors.
MW-Twist'A'Dala-JH-2 (1)_wm MW-Twist'A'Dala-JH-2 (3)_wm MW-Twist'A'Dala-JH-2 (7)_wm MW-Twist'A'Dala-JH-2 (10)_wm

And ofcourse another Twist through all the work in progress shots…

What I like the most of these kind of drawings that you can color them the way you like… it is not necessary to stay in the lines. Of course you can also color each space separately, and this will give a great result too!

I found this colored piece on the coloring group, and I want to share it with you too… from collegue artist Isa Humeau. What patience she had…love it! Isa colored with Stabilo 68 pen.
Isa Humeau- Stabilo 88

Of course, the book is new, and I didn’t find any more colored versions to inspire you at the moment, but I can promise you, there will be more…. because I am going to color them, and I am for sure that I will find more on the coloring groups.

Or maybe I will find your colored pieces!!

Johanna Ans & Maria Wedel promotion….. we have books too!!

Johanna Ans & Maria Wedel promotion….. we have books too!!

We have been working so hard on promoting everybody’s books-by making videos, making blogs, putting them in the Global Doodle Gems store, collecting colored drawings from different groups, making artist profiles, uploading the new GDG books to Create Space and the Amazon store, that we have been forgetting to promote ourselves….

So I have decided to do some promotion this way for both of us….  I will start with the books of Maria Wedel.

GDG “Twister Book Chill Pill” Volume 1
Twister Book Chill ill 1
The cover was colored by Ellen Wolters, but I colored the whole book so that Maria could make this video:

The third book from Maria is a book that we worked on together… she asked me to color “some” eggs for her, and during that journey, I did some drawing in her designs…. 5 pages in fact, and then the idea came, that I did 5 pages of my own designs within her templates…. and then the book GDG ‘The Little Big Book of Egg Designs” was born… I am so proud…

Yes, I did color all the eggs on the cover…hundreds I colored, and it was no problem at all…I loved it to do…

The next is a drawing from Maria, colored by me:

GDG Cat Gems Johanna Ans
The cover is wonderfully colored by my friend Peggy Sue Karunding, also an GDG Artist…

Team Taiwan and the colorists of team Dutchies did a great job coloring for me on this one…

GDG Individuals Isa Humeau Prigent “GraphiZen” Personal Review

GDG Individuals Isa Humeau Prigent “GraphiZen” Personal Review

Isa Humeau GraphiZen englishIsa Humeau Graphizen french

When I look to this cover, I like to have a look inside this book, I like the shapes, it makes me curious right away….

I like fire, and I like to color like fire….that’s why I choosed this drawing as my first in this book. nice and warm….. I started with Caran d’Ache Pablo & Faber Castell Polychromos

Isa Humeau-Johanna Ans (1)_wm Isa Humeau-Johanna Ans (3)_wm Isa Humeau-Johanna Ans (5)_wm
My fire is getting nice and warm… Let’s color the ring of hearts. I will use the Stabilo 88 Fineliners for that. It’s pretty detailled work which I like…

The finishing touch is done with my fingers, grab the color from the Van Eyck Pastel crayon, right out of the box, and put it on the paper… what will go pretty fine in this book!

Isa Humeau-Johanna Ans (14)_wm

My second drawing that I choose, is my “peacefull coloring”. When I feel restless, I like to color something like this, a lot of details, small spaces… so I work with Stabilo 88 Fineliners.

Isa & Johanna Ans (3)_wm Isa & Johanna Ans (6)_wm Isa & Johanna Ans (9)_wm Isa & Johanna Ans (11)_wm
I feel great, coloring this drawing, almost a petty that the most of the work is already done… The rings I will color with Stabilo 68 Pen

Isa & Johanna Ans (15)_wm
I was in doubt, if I should leave the white spaces white or color them…and how should I color them. Something like gems, I grabbed my Cd’A Pablo and FC Polychromos again…

Isa & Johanna Ans (16)_wm Isa & Johanna Ans (17)_wm

And the third drawing should be just in between, not to detailled, but just fun to color. I colored with Bruynzeel Expression Color and a little bit of Van Eyck Pastel Crayon

Isa & Johanna 3 (3)_wm Isa & Johanna 3 (6)_wm Isa & Johanna 3 (8)_wm

I had a great afternoon, coloring these drawings. I like the book,, but even more the paper. Everything works so fine in it…. of course I always use a protectionsheet in between…you never know.

Isa & Johanna 3 (10)_wm

I made a small video too, to show you the whole work in progress from these 3 colorings…

I hope you liked my review. And if you want this book too, you can find it here

GDG Volume 8 inspiration blog by artists and their colorists

GDG Volume 8 inspiration blog

As you all know, we as artists have to make 5 drawings and a chapterpage for a volume book. Also we have to make a colored piece, by ourselfs or a colorist to choose. I want to share those colored pieces with you, to inspire you all

Cover spread

Its nice to know that not every artist is possible to color their own work, some of the artist just can color their own, and others even don’t color. So it’s great that we can “use” the possibillity to choose somebody to do it for you. We as Global Doodle Artists also can ask our Publisher Maria to give colorists on our FB Global Doodle Gems group a colorchallenge. So the colorist can be part of the cover, or part of the video’s we make of colored pieces to promote the book! And as the blogger for GDG I collect ofcourse all the colorchallenge pages, to use them for the blog, with your name mentioned!

Let’s start our “Tour de Colorings”. Start with one of the colorings I did for the backcover, to promote Volume 9. It is from artist: Elisabeth Cassidy (New York style). I colored this with Stabilo 68. It was a strange drawing for me when I saw it, what shall I do with this piece…. an it became “just go out of your Colorbox”.

Laat onze “Kleurrijke Tour” gaan beginnen…
