Review GDG The Directory of Who’s Who of Coloring Book Artists 2016

Op facebook zag ik de oproep van Johanna Ans om lid te worden van het GDG Dutch Review team. Omdat ik toe was aan een nieuwe kleuruitdaging heb ik gereageerd op deze oproep en hoera ik werd uitgekozen. Als lid van het team kon ik 3 boeken kopen uit de collectie van Global Doodle Gems. En van deze boeken moet er een review worden geschreven.  Dit is mijn eerste review ooit, dus vindt het erg spannend wat jullie reacties zullen zijn.

On Facebook I saw the call from Johanna Ans to join the Dutch GDG Review team. Because I was ready for a new color challenge I responded to this call and hurray I was chosen. As a member of the team I could buy 3 books from the collection of Global Doodle Gems. And from these books should be written a review. This is my first review ever, so I find it very exciting what will be your reaction.

 

Informatie over het boek/ Information about this book

The Directory of Who’s Who of coloring book artists bevat tekeningen van de artiesten die meewerken aan de boeken van Global Doodle Gems. Een overzicht van de artiesten die hebben meegewerkt kun je hier vinden.
Van iedere artiest staan er 1 of 2 tekeningen in het boek.  Het boek heeft 119 pagina’s en is enkelzijdig gedrukt.  Dit boek is een leuke kennismaking met Global Doodle Gems en heeft kleurplaten in verschillende onderwerpen. Onder andere Mandala’s, dieren, portretten, fantasie. Kortom voor iedereen zit er wel een plaat in die je leuk vindt om te maken of waar een uitdaging in zit om uit je comfortzone te komen.

The Directory of Who’s Who of coloring book artists contains drawings of the artists participating in the books of Global Doodle Gems. An overview of the artists who participated can be found here
For every artist there are one or two drawings in the book. The book has 119 pages and is printed on one side. This book is a nice introduction to Global Doodle Gems. The coloring pages has different subjects. By example mandala’s, animals, portraits and fantasy. So there are pages you love to color or to get out of your comfort zone.

Laten we beginnen/ Let’s get started

Omdat er geen testpagina’s voor je kleurmaterialen in dit boek staan ben ik begonnen met de introductiepagina getekend door Kristen Webster om te kijken hoe het papier reageert op Stabilo 88 fineliners. Omdat het papier dun is had ik verwacht dat dit niet goed zou gaan, maar mijn verwachting kwam niet uit. De inkt werd goed opgenomen en maken geen strepen of vlekken. Het drukt wel door op de andere kant, maar boek is enkelzijdig bedrukt dus geen probleem. Uit voorzorg had ik wel een vel papier ertussen gedaan voor bescherming.

Because there is no test page for coloring materials I started with the introduction page made by Kristen WebsterKristen Webster to see how the paper responds to Stabilo 88 point. Because the paper is thin I expected that this would not go well, but my expectation did not come out. The ink was well absorbed and not stripes or spots. It suppressed by the other side, but book is printed on one side so that’s no problem. As a precaution, I had done a sheet of paper between them for protection the next page.

Don’t stop me now!

Dit is zo’n leuk boek dat ik na de 1^e plaat niet kon stoppen en gelijk door ben gegaan met de volgende. Zoals eerder geschreven heeft dit boek zoveel keuze dat ik gewoon de eerstvolgende plaat in het boek heb genomen van Adriana Volpe. En dit is een plaat waar ik voor uit mijn comfortzone moet, omdat het een mix is van patronen, waar geen volgorde inzit zoals bij een mandala. Ik had net mijn set Marco Rafine potloden binnen gekregen dus dit was de kans om ze uit te proberen. Eerst begonnen met de giraf en wow wat mengen de kleuren zich mooi op papier. Daarna begonnen met de patronen en hier had ik doorzettingsvermogen voor nodig om de plaat af te maken. Ieder vakje moest een andere kleur. Maar het is gelukt en weet nu dat ik ook deze platen kan doen.

This is such a great book that I couldn’t stop and went right to the next page. And this is drawing from Adriana Volpe where I need to go out of my comfort zone, because it is a mix of patterns, but it’s not a mandala. I just received a set Marco Rafine pencils so this was the opportunity to try them out. First I started with the Giraffe and wow the colors are beautiful on paper. Then started the patterns and here I had perseverance needed to go on. Each box had a different color. But I did it and now I know that I can this kind of pages.

Soms gaan dingen niet zoals je wilt/Sometimes things are going wrong when you’re busy

Omdat ik verschillende materialen wil proberen in dit boek wilde ik bij de volgende plaat stiften gebruiken. Ik heb mijn Docraft artist dual tip pens al een tijd niet gebruikt dus voor deze review kan ik ze eens uit de kast halen. Heb voor deze test een plaat uitgezocht van Jeannette Wummel met grote vlakken. Maar helaas was dit geen succes. De stiften laten grote strepen en vlekken achter.

Because I want to try different materials in this book the next page i want to color with markers. I don’t use my Docraft Artist dual tip pens often so for this review i can take them out of my closet. For this test, I choose a drawing from Jeannete Wummel, because it had great squares. But this is no succes. The markers are leaving big stripes and spots on the paper.

Snel verder gegaan met Stabilo 68. Dit ging iets beter maar ben niet tevreden. Ook hier strepen en vlekken. Had ook geen zin meer om de plaat af te maken, misschien dat ik dat later nog wel doe.

I decide to go on with my Stabilo 68 pens. It gets better, but I’m not satisfied. This pens also give stripes and spots. I don’t want to finish this drawing, maybe I will do this later.

 

 

De laatste pagina voor deze review/The last page for this review.

Omdat de vorige plaat niet goed ging besluit ik om nog een plaat te maken voor deze review. Deze plaat staat ook op de cover en was er zo verliefd op dat ik het boek wilde hebben. Hij is gemaakt door Casey Gilmore. Ik heb gekleurd met de potloden van Bruynzeel Rijksmuseum. Was ik bij de Marco Rafine al enthousiast over het kleuren met potloden in dit boek, nu ben ik helemaal overtuigd. Wat glijden deze potloden lekker over het papier en wat een goede kleurafgifte. Ook blenden de potloden mooi in elkaar over zonder gebruik te maken van een speciaal blenderpotlood.

Because the previous page did not go well I decide to make another page for this review. This drawing is also on the cover and I was so in love with that I wanted to have the book. He is created by Casey Gilmore. I colored with Bruynzeel pencils Rijksmuseum. I was at the marco rafinne all excited about coloring with pencils in this book, now I’m completely convinced. Not to push hard to get a nice result and no special blendingpencil needed.

Conclusie/ Conclusion

Wat een fantastische eerste kennismaking met de artiesten van Global Doodle Gems. Omdat er zoveel verschillende soorten kleurplaten in staan verveelt het boek geen moment. Liggen sommige boeken al heel lang half gekleurd in mijn kast, dat gaat met dit boek zeker niet gebeuren. De stiften blijven wel in de kast, want die vind ik niet geschikt voor dit boek. Kleine vlakken kunnen wel met Stabilo 88 gekleurd worden. Voor de rest zal ik mijn kleurpotloden gebruiken.

Dit was mijn eerste review. Hoop dat jullie het leuk vonden om te lezen.

What a fantastic first acquaintance with the artists of Global Doodle Gems. Because there are so many different types of coloring pages the book bored no time at all. Some books have long been half colored in my closet. With this book it certainly not going to happen. The markers remain in the closet, because that I find not suitable for this book. Small areas can be colored with Stabilo 88. For the rest I will use my crayons.  This was my first review. Hope you liked reading it.
