GDG Color event April 30-May 1 2016 by Ahmed Fouad & Isa Humeau

GDG Color event April 30-May 1 2016 by Ahmed Fouad & Isa Humeau

Yes, tonight we are going to have a color event with 2 wonderful artists. We are going to color some pages with Ahmed Fouad from his gorgeous book GDG “Celestial Art” and with Isa Humeau in her wonderful book GDG “GraphiZen”.
I had the opportunity to work on this blog prior to the event because I had their material beforehand, so I could do a lot of work to inspire you for this event!

Celestial Art Ahmed GraphiZen

I started to color with the 4 freebies, and I put them together in a Work In Progress video for you, so you can see all the steps that I made. I colored with Stabilo 68, Stabilo 88, Staedtler Triplus Brilliance, Spectrum Noir- & Touchliit alcoholmarkers

Isa Humeau 1 (15)021

Isa & Ahmed also did a “Quatre Mains”, that means that they both made a start with a drawing, sent them to each other, and then finished each others work…. but in the meantime you know me! I could not let that opportunity go…. so I had to do that too!
I hope you don’t mind Isa & Ahmed… but knowing you both, I don’t think you will!

Let’s start with Isa’s linework…. typical Ahmed style….and the 3rd is mine….
Isa start Isa-Ahmed (1) 020
Isn’t that fun to see, how different the same lines can become to a totaly different art piece to color?
Now I show you the start of Ahmed’s linework…. then in the second you see Isa’s style, and again the 3rd is mine…

Another video for you, how this all came alive….

And if you thought, that this blog party is over, you’re wrong. Of course I also have some friends who are helping to make a surprise… I asked them to color the line work that I made, as a gift of honour to Ahmed and Isa…. For their beautiful art, but also for the party that they have invited us all to, so everybody gets a chance to color their work!

Time for another blog, this time for my collegue Isa about her book GraphiZen. A beautiful book with art that covers designs from very detailed, to pretty, nice flowers and shapes. This book is available in English and French, because Isa is from France. So that’s the reason that I have shown you 2 covers!

Isa Humeau GraphiZen english Isa Humeau Graphizen french

If you haven’t see the blog before then I will take you through her book in this video:

Doesn’t that look really really nice? Maybe I am too excited, because I like her book, her style, and I loved coloring for her. I chose a Mandala kind of drawing-small detailed work, great for the Stabilo 88 & Staedtler Triplus Brilliance
004 018
I used one of my favorite color palettes; purples, oranges, reds and yellows. It makes me feel warm, and gives me happiness inside.
027 036
Throughout the whole experience of coloring the mandala, the open space cried to be filled in to me, I don’t know why… maybe it was the feeling  of happiness that led me to do it, so I put my own “mark” on it, with Sakura Micron 0.5 mm-of course a cat! I hope you don’t mind Isa….
039
This video shows the whole process of making this beautiful art-of how it became alive!

When I started with making Work In Progress scans, I thought that it would take me a lot of time, but now I am so used to it, that it is as if I never colored without! It is more fun to make a video-better than pictures with my mobile phone. I hope you prefer that way too!

If you would like to know more about Isa, take a look at her artist profile…
https://globaldoodlegems.wordpress.com/isa-humeau-2/

Isa also colors a lot of her own work, and she shows it on our fangroup “Global Doodle Gems”, that you also can join if you haven’t yet. Look what I collected from Isa…. These 3 beautiful pieces are done with Chameleon Pens & Sharpies
Isa-2 sharpies Isa-Chameleonpen & Charpies Isa-Chameleonpen

When you put an extra protection sheet between the pages of the book, your art will be protected, because the books are single printed, so you can use whatever you like in the books, you can even work with watercolors! Isa did exactly that together with using Stabilo 88 & Stabilo 68 in the next 3 colorings.
Isa Stab 68 & Aquarel Isa stab 68 en aquarel Isa Stabilo 68-88- Watercolor

It is not only Isa that colors her work- look….colorist Laurence Roucou  also did a beautiful job! I know that FC Polychromos is Laurence’s favourite medium to work with and that’s what she used for these drawings, along with Stabilo 88 for the fine details.
Laurence Poly & stab 88  Laurence

And what do you think of this beautiful coloring by Elisabeth Delhaye? I love the color choice that she made.. Everybody loves to see the rainbow, but it is also a favorite color palette for a lot of colorists…
Elisabeth Delhaye
Last but not least, 3 extra colorings from Isa to inspire you: she did her coverpage with Letra Promarkers– I love to use them too in the books. Yes it goes through the paper, alcohol markers almost all do that in the coloringbooks, but I don’t care, because the back will also be a beautiful piece of art to me…

I hope that I have given you a nice overview about Isa’s book GraphiZen, and that you like it as much as I do, and here I can give you a hand so you can find your book pretty easy…

GDG “Celestial Art” by Ahmed Fouad

I am everytime surprised again when I see this gorgeous cover. I like the colors, and the way it’s done!
Celestial Art Ahmed

The cover really invites me to take a look inside the book, and that’s exactly what I am gonna do with you!

GDG “Celestial Art” has a lot of different styles to color, mandala kind of stuff, animals, doodle and tangle style. I like the style that Ahmed uses, gives me really a nice time coloring his work. I colored the owl for this review to show you. I used my ShinHan Touch alcoholmarkers, and the little brother of ShinHan, my Touch Liit alcoholmarkers. Also grabbed some Staedtler Norris Brilliance, a really nice and fine 0.3mm fineliner.

I also made a small video, to show you the stepp by stepp that I did in this coloring so you can see how the owl becomes alive.

On our Global Doodle Gems fangroup, I colected some other work from Ahmed, done by different colorists. I will show them to you to inspire you, but also that you can see how beautifull Ahmed’s work will become with colors!

Colorist: Dom Domx. What a great choice of colors, it is like sunshine to me!

Colorist: Nancy van Acker & Sandrine Gaucher, look how the same drawing can become totally different art when people color there on favorite way.

Colorist: Lynn Stevens & Stacey Hayward. Also a beautiful set, to see how art can become different art. Lynn’s very soft and smooth, while Stacey choosed more “hard bright” colors.

This one is also colored by Stacey, great job, love the colors

GDG “Harmony / Harmonie”, by / par Leen Margot, personal review

Laety'Esperanza Alegria Colorist

I forgot that I had this book too, to review…. so I made time to look through the book and made my choice of which designs I would like to color. First we will have a look inside the book as usual…

This beautiful book is in English and in French…. the language of course doesn’t matter about how you color…that’s always in your own “color-language”.

I made a video with all the Work In Progress shots that I made. After that I will show you the pictures of course…so you can take a better look!

I started with the dreamcatcher. I like dreamcatchers, in my house I have a beautiful collection, but I also like making them myself-my daughter taught me…. this is my first! With a wooden butterfly, crystals, gems and of course, feathers.
20160410_201536

But, it’s about coloring, so let’s start with the pictures of the dreamcatcher-this was also the first dreamcatcher that I have colored!
001 004

I like the small details, I colored all the seperate small parts with Stabilo 88 and the fineliner point from my Tombow Playcolor 2
My first thought about the flower in the middle, the big spaces, was color with my Derwent Colorsoft, but I decided to go for pointillism with the Tombow
009 010

The second drawing I choose because of the many circles-I like circles, captured in those frames. This time I decided to color in a kind of rainbow style. Simple, easy, and it always looks great!
011 015

019 024
And I know that Leen loves cats to, just as I do… she has a beautiful style for her cat drawings. I had to do something really different with it… I used my own cat Liefke (rip) as inspiration for the colors.
100_1993 041-1

But I didn’t just color it, I doodled it too, so it still was a white cat… just for fun. As you can see, I did the whole drawing totally using the colorbox, I couldn’t help it…I loved the drawing, and I do love the way I made it  Leen/Johanna Art hahaha…
027 032

038 041
I also did a lot of different extra details not just with drawing, but also with the way I colored, I wanted to show you that you can do a lot more with your colouring mediums… And yes, it takes a little more time, but the result is great…I think!
041-2 041-3
041-4 041-5

The book has a lot of different kind of drawings, so you must be able to find something to color for the whole family or your group of colorist friends… What you don’t like, another person might love. I switch sometimes with a friend, she likes other stuff to color than I do, so I color in her books, and she in mine… this makes for less open blank pages! And for me it’s also a “gift” that my friend colored in my book!

I hope you liked the blog…and if you want to have the book of your own…

GDG “Cat Gems”, Johanna Ans, colorists tells you about the book

GDG Cat Gems Johanna Ans
I asked on the Global Doodle Gems fan group if there were colorists who wanted to help me to make a review about my book, and yes, there where people who wanted to do that for me.They already knew my book from the video, but now they had drawings to color for me. Take a look with me in this beautiful book for cat lovers….

I  will start with colorist Véro Pignot, who wrote this for me:
“Johanna offers us  wonderful colouring books on cats but not only that, as in other drawings by Johanna,  you will find a lot of details that will lead you away from reality and help you escape your daily life and achieve a kind of meditation state thanks to coloring. What I particularly love is  finding a complete landscape with trees, rivers, flowers….. in a small area of her drawing, as if there can be a complete world living hidden in a detail of what you believe is the reality. Come and find these small worlds in the big one ! Enter Johanna’s universe, you won’t be disappointed! It is really ART + THERAPY, plus some CATS who are always so kind, beautiful, mysterious and who may know more than us about small hidden worlds……”

“Mephisto Coloring Therapy” Volume 2 “Brightside & Darkside”

“Mephisto Coloring Therapy” Volume 2 “Brightside & Darkside”, by Maria Wedel & Johanna Ans

Cover Bright

Let us first take a look inside the MCT Brightside…

I will use my Spectrum Noir Markers, because I want to know if they will work alright in this kind of Mephisto coloring too! The nicest thing about these kind of drawings, is that you can go “out of the box”-you don’t need to follow the lines, just color where you’re hand takes you! Of course the lines can be your guideline…

I will show you some “Work In Progress” pictures from the cover that I colored…
001 002
I started with a nice set of colors, my feeling today was pink-purple…so that’s what I used. I started in the middle, so my “flower” opens her leaves ring by ring…. You can do pretty detailed coloring, but also color bigger spaces…. just what feels good to you. My preference is to go over the lines…
003

I love the way how that “strange” drawing becomes a great piece of art… and yes, you can do that too, if you don’t think to much about what you are doing… just have fun, and see what happens!

The second drawing for the cover feels like “green”…. Yellow and green always gives me the feeling that it’s spring. It’s cold outside, the wind is blowing, the heater is on, and I still can’t get warm….  So I hope my colors will “make” me warm!
MCT Volume 4 brightside (1) MCT Volume 4 brightside (2)

Can you see, that I only use a few guidelines? It still becomes beautiful art, but most importantantly, it gives me rest, a nice calm feeling… and that’s why we color…to lose our stress from daytime work, taking care of the kids or your parents etc…..
MCT Volume 4 brightside (3)

Next to each other, they look gorgeous…  just using a few colors!
cover brightside volume 2 (2) cover brightside volume 2 (4)

But the fun doesn’t stop because there is a “Blackside” too, to color. What a great collage that will be! I will show you what I did with it….

Cover Dark

Inside the book…

I took the same colors, and started again in the middle… I have both of the drawings, so I can take my Brightside coloring as an example
005 006
Yes, its different, and it can be more difficult too…. if you follow the lines! But thats why these drawings are so much fun…. you can see in it what you like to see!
007

And that’s exactly what I do… follow what I want to see in the picture…. and my yellow and green lines will be lovely to do!
MCT Vol.4 Darkside (1) MCT Vol.4 Darkside (2) MCT Vol.4 Darkside (3)

Are you becoming curious how they look next to each other?
cover darkside volume 2 (4)cover darkside volume 2 (2)

In a frame they become great art on your wall…
2016-02-13_10.59.24

If you want to make art like this, just try coloring once when your mind is empty…. after that you will want to color more… I believe that, because its fun, it looks nice…..
